Cari fratelli e sorelle , "Il mio tempo è nelle tue mani" Che cosa significa per ognuno di noi dire "il mio tempo è nelle tue mani?". Siamo come l'antico salmista nel nostro tempo di fronte al Dio vivente, che ci interpella e ci chiama come è appena successo nell'evento del Natale; e di fronte a questo Dio vivente alla fine di questo 2008 e all’inizio di un nuovo anno siamo chiamati a rispondere, ad esprimere ciò che è di noi, e del nostro tempo. Il mio, il nostro tempo ..... che cosa significa questa espressione? Il mio, il nostro tempo non è semplicemente quello della nostra esistenza, il nostro passato a partire dalla nascita ed il nostro futuro fino alla morte, il nostro presente, l'istante che viene e se ne va senza tregua, questo culto che segna la fine dei momenti di culto di questo 2008. Il mio tempo, significa qualcosa di più. Il termine in ebraico equivale a destino. Il mio tempo è dunque la storia della mia esistenza, la storia di ciò che accade nella mia vita, tutto ciò che ho fatto o non fatto, ciò che farei ancora e ciò che non farei mai. Il mio tempo, il nostro tempo siamo noi con questo grande compito di amare Dio, nostro Signore, con tutto il cuore e con tutta la nostra mente e con tutta la nostra forza e il nostro prossimo come noi stessi. Il mio tempo, il nostro tempo siamo tuttavia anche noi con il nostro fardello di menzogne, di ipocrisia, di egoismo. In sintesi potremmo dire, il mio tempo, sono io, io che ho vissuto, che vivo e che desidero vivere ancora, me stesso con tutto ciò che comprendo e ignoro, di cui sono capace ed incapace, io con i miei lati forti e deboli, con le mie qualità ed i miei difetti. "Il mio tempo è nelle tue mani" Ecco qui l'essenziale. L’espressione “nelle tue mani." sottolinea il fatto che il tempo non ci appartiene. Anche se pensiamo di poter disporre della nostra vita come meglio crediamo, anche se tante volte pensiamo di poter stabilire non solo il nostro ma anche il futuro degli altri, anche se ci illudiamo di essere onnipotenti, il nostro tempo non ci appartiene, è in altre mani, quelle di Dio. Non nelle mani di uno sconosciuto ma di fronte a questo Dio che io, noi conosciamo e che soprattutto ci conosce, di fronte a questo Dio che mi ha parlato e che ora aspetta che io a mia volta parli. Il mio, il nostro tempo è nelle tue mani, significa dunque che non è in quelle di un destino indifferente, oscuro che ispira paura ed angoscia ma nelle mani di un Dio che si prende cura delle sue creature. E le mani di Dio non sono altro che i suoi gesti, le sue opere, le sue parole, che ci circondano da ogni parte e ci contengono, ci sorreggono e si curano di noi. Sono le mani che Gesù Cristo ha steso verso i poveri, gli affamati, gli oppressi; sono quelle stesse mani che hanno benedetto i bambini, che hanno toccato e guarito i malati, che hanno rotto e distribuito il pane a cinquemila persone nel deserto, sono quelle stesse mani che sono state inchiodate sulla croce per la nostra riconciliazione con Dio Queste sono le mani di cui parla il nostro testo; le mani nelle quali è il nostro tempo e noi stessi. E' in queste mani, nelle mani del Signore che è trascorso il 2008 con tutto ciò che ci ha portato e ci ha tolto, con tutto ciò che noi siamo stati e che abbiamo fatto sia in bene che in male. Ma proprio perché è stato un anno trascorso nelle mani del Signore, è stato un anno di grazia. Ed è in queste stesse mani che sta per iniziare il 2009, con tutto ciò che questo nuovo anno ci porterà o ci toglierà, anch'esso sarà un anno di grazia, non un anno qualsiasi ma l'anno del Signore per ognuno di noi, perché se il nostro tempo è nelle sue mani, quest’anno, come quest'ora sarà per noi, per voi, per me, per tutti coloro che hanno compreso e creduto alla storia del Natale, a Gesù Cristo, alla sua morte in croce ed alla sua resurrezione, un anno che vogliamo porre sotto la guida e sotto lo sguardo del Dio in cui crediamo. Amen Text : Psalm 31: 15s Dear brothers and sisters, "My times are in your hands" What does it mean for each one of us to say “My times are in your hands?". We are just the same, as the psalm writer, we are in our times in front of the living God, a God that is calling us, as it happened in the event of Christmas, and to this living God we are called to answer, in this time, at the end of a year and at the beginning of a new one, we are called to answer and say what we did of our times and of ourselves. My times, our times ..... what does such an expression mean? My/our times, are not simply the times of our existence, our past and our future, from our birth all the way to our death, with all its days, weeks and years. My times means something more. The Hebrew term is the equivalent for destiny/fate in other words, my times are my history, the history of the events of my life, what I have done and what I haven’t, what I would still do and what I never would. My times, our times are us. Us, with our calling to love God with all our hear, with all our mind and with all our strength and to love our neighbours as ourselves. Our times are us, also with all negatives sides, with the last of all our lies and superphiciality and selfishness. To say my times, means to say “I”, with all what I experienced and that I wtill will, with all that I know and with all which I do not know; it is “I” with my weeknesse and my strengths. " My times are in your hands " In your hands, this is the essential: the expression underlines the fact that time does not belong to us. Even when we think that we can freely decide of our life, even if often we thinfk we can decide our future and even the one of others, even if we pretend to be allmighty and have all under control, actually time does not belong to us, it isn’t in our hands, it is in other hands’ God’s hands. Not in the hands off a stranger,, but of this God that we have known and especially who knows us, a God who spoke and who now expects us to speak out. My times are in your hands means that our life is not controlled by a blind and distant fate, that scares us with its blindness and its indifference. Instead it is in God’s hands, in the hands of a creator that takes care of his creatures. God’s hands are simply God’s gestures, deeds and words, that surround us from everywhere and that sustain us and care for us in all times. God’s hands are Jesus’ hands, the hands that he stretched out to the poor, the hungry ones, the hands that blessed childred, touched and healed the sick, the hands that broke bread and distributed it, the same hands that were then nailed on the cross for our reconciliation with God. These are the hands that our texts speaks about, the hands in which are we. It is in these hands that this past year went by, with all what it gave us and what it took from us, with all what we have been and we have done, both positive and negative. But precisely because it was a year that went by in the hands of the Lord, it has been a year of grace. In those same hands this new year is about to start again, with all what this coming year will give us and take from us, still it will be a year of grace. Not just simply a new year, but God’s year for each one of us. Because if our times are in his hands, then this year will be for all of us, for any one who believed the good news of Christmas, for anyone who believed in Jesus Christ and in his redemption action on the cross, it will be a new year that we are called to put under the guidance of the Lord in which we believe.
